Founded
in 1948, Genuario's Floor Covering Center has been a family owned
and managed business for over 50 years. It originated from the dreams
of two young relatives, Roland and Vincent Genuario, who began by
selling asphalt tiles out of a truck and garage. Their entrepreneurship
lead to the opening of the first store in 1949 on 38 Main Street which
was known simply as The Floor Covering Center. The success of the
store depended on the dedication, spirit of fairness and loyalty to
their customers and employees. In 1951, the business moved again to
1 Wall Street and the Genuarios hired their first employees. Through
the hard work and energy of the Genuario family, The Floor Covering
Center expanded its residential and commercial base becoming the largest
carpet, tile and laminate showroom in the area. After the flood of
"55" Roland and Vincent were forced to
relocate. In 1956 they built a new store at the current location-106
Main Street and changed the name to Genuario's Floor Covering Center.
Sandra Tomaselli joined her
father in 1978 helping out with sales and bookkeeping. Roland retired
in 1982 and Vincent took over the ownership and management of the
business. Seven years later Jim Tomaselli began working with his father-in-law.
Though they didn't have many years together Vincent taught Jim all
he needed to know about the flooring business. They had become good
friends and partners. After Vincent's death in 1993, Jim and Sandy
became the new owners of Genuario's and continue today with the family
tradition of value and service. They have maintained the dream of
Vincent and Roland providing an enduring legacy of American Entrepreneurship
based on family loyalty and commitment to the community.
